Stellar Blade has generated $316.9M via PS5 (59.7%) and Steam (40.3%) – @alineaanalytics estimates.
However, the gap in Stellar Blade’s 5.4M copies sold is narrower (50.4% on PlayStation, 49.6% on Steam) – despite the Steam version releasing a year later. So the Steam version is actually performing better, launch aligned.
Meeting an audience where they are (on Steam) worked in Stellar Blade’s favour here.
For the Steam release, Shift Up heavily targeted the China by introducing a dedicated Chinese voice localisation with full lip-sync dubs (which were not available on the original PS5 version).
China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong account for 48% of Steam copies and 35% of PlayStation copies (about 41% overall). These markets are regionally priced lower than others, hence the difference.
The Chinese language dubs and localisation were also added to the PS5 version, which helped shift the share of China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong copies on PS5 by a few percentage points there, too.
This is all data PlayStation is keeping a keen eye on as it figures out its Steam strategy. It’s also seen the data for Phantom Blade Zero, and China Hero Project happened this week.
Some pretty big implications here.
